The 3rd Annual AUCAOS symposium was held in Katoomba, Blue Mountains, from 2-4th December 2019.
The symposium had more than 80 registered attendees with over a third being students (28 PhD, 4 Masters and 3 Honours). There was also 16 ECR attendees. The Keynote speaker, Dr Alexander Colsmann (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany) gave an excellent talk on “Eco-friendly solution processing of organic solar cells”. Presentations ranged across theory and modelling of semiconductor deposition and charge transport, to the synthesis of organic semiconducting materials, processing, characterisation of the photophysical and charge transporting properties of materials, and device fabrication and testing. Presentations on organic semiconductor technologies included organic light-emitting diodes, photovoltaics (over 50% of the presentations) and sensors. A key feature of many presentations was the centrality and importance of excitonic states. The ARC Centre of Excellence for Excitonic Science contributed to supporting the expenses associated with the Keynote speaker (registration, flights, and accommodation), plus a contribution towards the symposium venue hire costs.
